PW Pizza Boulevard Virtual Beer Dinner 2020

These virtual PW Pizza Beer Dinners are coming quick and steady every two weeks. I love that it's another night I don't have to come up with something to cook! This week's beer dinner was a good lineup of Boulevard Brewing's summer beers...and then Tank 7.

Boulevard Beer Lineup

Speaking of "Quick", it looks like Boulevard is trying their hand at seltzers and this is one of three new flavors. Definitely a patio pounder, and perfect by the pool as well as the salad course. Strawberries, Manarin Oranges, almonds, and feta screamed summer.

Tank 7 stood up to the "meaty pizza" pretty well, but the 8.5% ABV of the saison just isn't my thing.

I hadn't heard of the Single-Wide IPA before, but it was quite hoppy at 57 IBUs so it makes sense that it was paired with the blackened chicken. The spice level was not overpowering so I was able to eat it no problem.

Dessert was my favorite course since it was a Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake, which suprisingly went pretty well with the Unfiltered Wheat, even though it had a lot of lemon on the finish. Perhaps a lemon bar might have worked better? But I never say no to a chocolate chip!

Where we are quaran-dining in August

And the beat marches on!

August 7th: We kicked off the month with a birthday party from St. Louis Pizza and Wings. (Nice and hyper local!) Why yes we did get pizza AND wings...so many different flavors of wings too.

August 14th: Patience was ready for some Chinese comfort food as our middle kitty had fallen ill. New to me, we ordered delivery from Corner 17 in the Loop! Stir-fried hand-pulled noodles with chicken for me, and Pai and I split the handmade dumplings too, which were SO filling. (We both could only eat half our dinner and at $9.99, a great deal.

August 15th: What?!?! This is a Saturday! We ended up doing another super small birthday celebration by ordering Tony's favorite, LoRusso's. They even have cones set up for curb-side pick up! I felt like a celebrity! (Completely forgot to take pictures.)

August 20th: A few days later, I did a "front porch birthday" and my friend picked Pasteria, which was perfect because we had yet to order from there. Holy smokes they are SO in demand! It was a 90 minute wait for food and then some, as we pulled up out front (awkwardly in front of diners) to wait the last few minutes for our meal. Everything was delicious of course, with the Tagliatelle or “Pastaria Bolognese” as the most popular choice. Unfortunately, I only got a picture of the "The Allan", which was topped with tomato, mozzarella, mushroom, country ham, oregano, Grana Padano.

August 21st: It was my Friday to pick and I had my eye on Juniper for a while since I've been on their email list since they opened. Not only are they doing their own delivery, but they now have "Family Meals" at VERY affordable prices. So much that I got an extra side dish and tipped well. I ordered the "feeds 4" size so that we could get two meals out of too! Almost forgot to take the picture as there are some bones on my plate! Fried chicken, broccoli (collard greens for Pai), mac & cheese (of course it was my favorite), and a ton of cornbread.

PW Pizza Odell Brewing Summer Beer Dinner

July's PW Pizza beer dinner with O'Dell Brewing was definitely perfect for the heat of summer. All of the beers were very light and would be great patio pounders. Not too bad with pizza either.

The salad courses are large in the take home version and come with so many yummy toppings. The salad dressing, an orange vinaigrette, made sense with the Odel Witkist, a grapefuirt Belgian-style white ale. The light, citrus flavors helped cut through the blue cheese on the salad too.

Mixed Green Salad

I rolled my eyes at the name of the first pizza, "The Porky Pizza", but since the pizza was covered in BBQ sauce, I admit it was quite delicious. The Odel 90 Shilling Ale was a good match for the BBQ sauce too. (90 Shilling is historically taxed on the highest quality beers in Scotland.)

The Porky Pizza

I was super stoked for the Vegged Out pizza, since that is what I usually get when I can have my own pizza. I love a pizza that is loaded up with veggie toppings, but not greasy. I thought that an IPA might be too hoppy for the pizza, but at 37 IBUs, the citrus notes stood out the most. I guess the Good Behavior name refers to the 100 calories and 7 carbs!

Vegged Out Pizza

The last course was all about peach... the Peach Stand Rambler, a blonde ale brewed with fresh peaches, paired with a Peach Whipped Cream Pie. If you enjoy peaches, this pairing is for you. Neither the beer nor the pie were overwhelming peachy either. Pai isn't a peach fan so I got all of it!

The next one is coming up really soon so let me know if you want information about these take home beers dinners!

Where we are quaran-dining in July

Unfortunately, I was not able to participate in "Take-out Friday" early in the month, but managed to squeeze in some winners and luckily, there are FIVE Friday nights in July this year!

When things didn't go as planned, a quick comfort meal of Chicken Lo Mein from LuLu's Asian Kitchen hit the spot. They are on our short list of top notch Chinese take out and be sure to hit up all of LuLu's restaurants.

Chicken Lo Mein
Getting back to supporting hyper local restaurants, I finally got the chance to pick up dinner from Biggie's, one of the places I walk by frequently when getting my exercise in. As soon as I said Biggie's, Patience said "STEAK SAMMICH"!! They put it on cheesy garlic bread so you know it's pretty amazing.

Steak Sandwich
I decided to try something different...Chicken Marc's (who is Marc?) is chicken topped with meat sauce, chopped broccoli, ceram sauce, cheese, parmesan, and then baked. You know I loved all that cheesy goodness on top, although the top was a little crunchy.

Then we wrapped up the end of July with a repeat of El Paisano!
